Roof Leak: do this first

1. Put buckets under drips and move valuables.
2. If the ceiling bulges, stay clear of it.
3. Do NOT go on the roof in a storm.
4. Photograph stains, drips and damage.

General first steps

1. Shut off the main water valve (often near the water heater, basement wall, or where the line enters).
2. Kill power to wet areas at the breaker - only if you can reach it without standing in water. If unsure, don't.
3. Move valuables, electronics, and documents out of the water.
4. Snap photos before you clean up.
5. Stay out of sagging ceilings and sewage water.
