Washer, dishwasher, water heater or fridge leaking?

Appliance Leak: do this first

1. Turn off the appliance's supply valve or the main.
2. Unplug it only if the plug and floor are dry.
3. Mop and move items off the wet floor.
4. Photograph the appliance and the damage.

General first steps

1. Shut off the main water valve (often near the water heater, basement wall, or where the line enters).
2. Kill power to wet areas at the breaker - only if you can reach it without standing in water. If unsure, don't.
3. Move valuables, electronics, and documents out of the water.
4. Snap photos before you clean up.
5. Stay out of sagging ceilings and sewage water.
